Pierre et Gilles

These are some examples of Pierre et Gilles work. Considering im not really into alot of colour, I LOVE their stuff. There is so much energy, and humour in their work, each piece is unique and tells it's own story. What draws me to their work so much is the highly stylized quality in each photograph, and the references to pop/gay culture, and porn. There is a subtle and stylish look to even the most sexual images they create. The use of dynamic composition, vibrant colour and expression in each piece allows their photography to stand out as images which are full of life, and uncompromising in terms of subject matter, and style.

Yeh so I think this guy is from some PR company, I don't know which one though....I admire the boldness and committment to be noticed, but this does come at a cost. I mean it was HOT in that catwalk hall, and this guy was decked out head to toe in full PVC or something, so when we found a puddle of water on the catwalk where he had been sitting it could only be explained as a 'creative' way to try to cool down....!?

So yeh we noticed him for more reasons than one.

Romeo Pires

Romeo Pires was one of my favourite shows of the week, both for the strong sense of style and the attention to detail in the cut, and drape of the clothes and the detailed prints used through out. There was a gothic and almost sinister look in the collection created by the loosely powdered white faces of the models complete with frizzy wild hair styles. This dark sense of style was executed in a stylish and edgy way with a monochrome colour palette setting the tone for the entire collection with splashes of bold colour and print work used through out.

One of my favourite prints resembled a scan of a baby in the womb, this image is then repeated in a circular pattern in a greeny/gold tone set against the deep blue colour of the flowing draped dresses and shirts.

One of the talking points of the show was the long and lean proportions of the shirts, trousers and skirts, the waist line of the trousers and skirts falling at the lower crotch and beyond, which in theory can sound rather tasteless but the cut and drape of the clothes allowed this feeling to never be present, this is reinforced in the styling of the collection, by pairing these daring bottoms with long over-sized shirts for both men and women.

All together I think this was a really inventive and well executed collection, and I predict great things from Romeo Pires. I'm already excited to see what he has in store for next season...

Yeh fashion week can be this exciting.....

Some pictures from technical rehearsals, which I enjoyed because we could sit front row and snap away, gossip about the male models, and its a sneak peek of what everyone is waiting outside to come and see, there is an excitment around this time before the show! It was always really cool to watch John produce and direct the shows aswell.
